In this introduction to tropical ornithology, participants will explore the vast diversity of birds in the Amazon rainforest, learning about their biology and ecology through hands-on exercises conducted outside the classroom.
Held at an active biological station in the Peruvian Amazon with almost 600 species of birds, this course is designed to let participants spend as much time as possible doing field activities, complemented by nightly lectures. We want to foster an interest in conducting scientific research, with a special focus on skills relevant to tropical biology.
Activities will focus on observational methods, field notation, forest navigation skills, avian natural history and evolution, bird conservation, surveys methods (including mist netting, point counts, & line transects), radio telemetry, and more.
